Cloud Cost Optimizer
Why self-hosted cloud cost management beats SaaS for data-sensitive organizations

Every multi-cloud cost management tool on the market follows the same model: connect your cloud accounts, and their SaaS platform ingests your cost data into their infrastructure. CloudHealth, CloudCheckr, Spot.io, Apptio — all SaaS, all storing your spending data on their servers.
For many organizations, that trade-off is fine. For others — financial services under regulatory scrutiny, healthcare organizations with HIPAA considerations, MSPs whose clients contractually require data residency, government contractors — it isn't.
That's why we built Cloud Cost Optimizer as self-hosted software.
## What "self-hosted" means in practice
Cloud Cost Optimizer runs as a Docker Compose stack on your infrastructure. Six containers (Django, Celery, Celery Beat, PostgreSQL, Redis, Nginx) deploy in about 15 minutes. Your cost data — every resource cost, every tag, every anomaly baseline — lives in your PostgreSQL database on your server.
The only outbound calls CCO makes:
1. **Cloud cost APIs** (Azure Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer, GCP BigQuery Billing) — to fetch your cost data into your local database
2. **License server** — a daily validation ping (can operate offline with a 7-day grace period)
3. **AI provider** (optional) — if you configure the AI Assistant with your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key
No telemetry. No usage analytics. No cost data leaving your network.
## The cost math
SaaS cost tools typically charge $15,000–$21,000 per year for a mid-market deployment. That's $75,000–$105,000 over 5 years, with the price scaling as your cloud usage grows.
Cloud Cost Optimizer: $6,999 one-time license + $2,499/year maintenance. Five-year total: ~$17,000. Flat pricing regardless of how many resources you manage.
The difference isn't subtle. For an MSP managing 20 client environments, the savings compound — one CCO installation covers all clients, while SaaS tools often charge per-account or per-resource.
## What you give up
Honesty: self-hosted means you're responsible for the Docker host. You handle backups (we include a nightly pg_dump script), updates (`docker compose pull && docker compose up -d`), and SSL certificates (Certbot sidecar included). Setup is about 15 minutes; ongoing maintenance is minimal but not zero.
If you'd rather not think about infrastructure at all, SaaS is the simpler choice. Cloud Cost Optimizer wins on data sovereignty, cost predictability, and MSP flexibility — not on operational simplicity.
## Try it
The [live demo](https://cco-demo.quantumitpartners.com) is loaded with 24 months of sample data across Azure, AWS, and GCP. Walk through the Cost Explorer, review recommendations, and check the AI Assistant — all features enabled, no credit card required.
When you're ready to install on your own infrastructure, [request Docker install access](/products/cloud-cost-optimizer/install) and we'll email pull credentials and your license file.
